The following figures show the entries this year as compared with those of last year

LAWRENCE RACES.

After we went to press yesterday three events were decided. In the Novel Race, of 25 sovs, one mile, Mr Johnston’s Jessie (6.12) had an easy victory over Fanny (6,5), who fell after going half a mile. In the Lawrence Handicap, of 40 sovs, one mile and a-half, Mon Loup (9) won by a length from Miss Ann (7.3), with Aprfcs Moi (7,6) third. The Hack Race was won by Specimen.

At the Poverty Bay races Darnley won the Hurdles on the first day, Katinka (8.4) the Flying Handicap, Huerfana the Maiden Plate, Katinka (7.5) the Tauranga Stakes. The Dove won the Hurdles on the second day, Pouawa and Huerfana ran a dead heat for the Publicans’ Purse, Criminal won the County Stakes, and Fitzjames the Tradesmen’s Handicap.
