THE BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.

INVERCARGILL, December 7

The Education Board recently decided at the instance of Dr Hodgkinson, M.H.R., who is a member of the Board, to send Home for a number of bibles with a view of placing a copy in each school. The OrepuW Committee decline to accept a copy, giving the following reasons: —(1) There are and have been for years at least twenty copies in the school accessible at all times. (2) That nearly half of the population of the township are Roman Catholics; that Protestants and Roman Catholics have always dwelt in peace and harmony, and have always assisted one another in efforts made for religious purposes —to wit, contributing liberally towards the building of their several churches; and (3) the Committee have every reason to believe that the introduction of the Bible will be viewed with jealousy by Roman Catholic friends and neighbors, and may bo the means of destroying the Christian feelings that have always existed between Proteßtants and Catholics. The letter was received without comment. ,
