MUNICIPAL.
Mornikoton.—An ordinary meeting of this Council, held last evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr Grindley), Crs Campbell, Page, Cahill, Wills, Scoular, Norman, Reynolds, and Caffin.— Mr John Mitchell's offer to give the Council a piece of land, upon certain conditions, for the construction of a road to Maryhill was referred to a committee consisting of the Mayor, Crs Page, Norman, and Reynolds; to report to next meeting.—The Finance Committee reported that the bank overdraft was Ll.2s4.—The Inspector of Slaughter-houses reported that ninety head of large and 1,052 head of small cattle had been slaughtered during the month.—The Inspector recommended that maintenance metal be laid down in the following places:—Eglinton road, Hawthorn road, Maclaggan street, Glen road, Osborne terrace, and St. Ann's road. About 360 loads of metal would be required to do the work properly, and at present there was 270 yards of metal broken in the upper quarry. There would be several loads of rotten rock to remove in the new quarry, and he recommended that when the quarry was being stripped some of the metal bo placed on Appold street, from Vickery place downwards ; also, that some drain-pipes be laid in the Glen footpath to tap the spring which had breken out there. The report was adopted.—A committee appointed at last meeting to report re contracting for maintenance, recommended that instead of proceeding at once to tender for the general maintenance of the borough the matter be held over until December 21 next before any steps be taken to ajter the present system, and that the day men be kept on at the rate of 6s per day until that date. The Works Committee recommended that a coat of rotten rock be spread in Vickery place from Maryhill terrace to Appold street; the street to be formed to a proper shape before the metal is put on. The report was adopted. —Or Rbynolps moved—" That a footpath be formed, kerbed, and channelled in Dairy street, from opposite Galloway's gate to Neidpath road." Carried.—On the motion of Cr Caffin, Messrs James Rattray, Thomas Brown, and John Mitchell were appointed ainkfpg fund commissioners for the Borough.—Ah adjourned statutory meeting for the purpose of receiving the balanee-sheet from the Auditor-General was held after the ordinary meeting, when the balance-sheet was adopted. _ mmm^^mmmmm^mmmmmmmmm
