LAWRENCE ITEMS.
Some anxiety has been occasioned locally over the disappearance, since the end of last week, of a well-known Lawrence tradesman, who left to go to Dnnedin on business, but nothing has since been heard of him. His friends think that love matters must be the trouok. . The Governise;)* have effected retrenchment among the Civil "tei-yaate here to the extent of upwards of LI.OOO annually. The weather lately has been exceptionally fine.
