Arthur Daly, solicitor, who was arrested at Melbourne last month ou a charge of forging signatures to land transfer applications, has been committed for trial.

A difficulty has arisen with the Sydney Wharf Laborers' Union, who demand 15d per hour for lumping bags of chaff'. They say their action is necessitated by the course pursued by New Zealand shippers in sending over produce in extraordinary large bags. Other trades unions are supporting the Wharf Laborers' Union, and serious complications are likely to arise in shipping circles. The labor unions intend taking a firm stand on the Chinese question, and a difficulty is anticipated on arrival of the mail steamer Alameda from Ran Francisco next week, when it is believed that the unions will refuse to work the ehip if the Chine™ crew are not removed.
