Further reports state that Stanley has been compelled to use the reserve provisions intended for Emin Bey. Major Bartelott's efforts to organise a relief expedition havo failed. Persistent reports are being received at Suakin that a white man, probably Stanley, has arrived at Bahulghazee (? Bahr-el-Ghazel), after conquering the •country through which he passed. At the close of the proceedings in the Dillon appeal case the crowd pelted the police, who, however, charged and dispersed the mob. It is reported that M. de Lesseps is dead, The report, however, lacks confirmation.

The Southland Estates Company of New Zealand, with a capital of LI 85,000, has been registered.

Five hundred bales of rabbitskins were sold at London on Saturday.

Consols are at 100|; New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 98; and 5 per cent., 105f. The money market is firm owing to a rise on tho Continental Bourses. Tallow : Best mutton, 23s 3d ; beef, 22s Gd. Chilian copper, LB2 5s per ton; Australian tin, LBO 10s; Straits, LBO ss; iron, 435. Sugar: German beet, 13s 9d ; Java, 15s 6d; Queensland, 12s Gd.

The English and American wheat markets are declining. The arrivals of cargoes have been large. Australian is quoted at 345; New Zealand long-berried, 4s 3d ('! 31s 3d). For the new crop 33s is offered. Off-coast cargoes have not met with a ready sale. Australian flour, 21s; Zew Zealand, 235. Cardinal Moran has had an audience with the Pope, at which the Cardinal stated that his Australian experience intensified his conviction of the necessity and justice of autonomy being granted to Ireland. The Republican Convention demand the passing of the strictest laws against the introduction of Chinese into America. They also condemn the Fisheries Treaty entered into with Canada,

Lord Salisbury lias informed his supporters that if party discipline is relaxed the Government will be compelled to introduce only the mildest measures.

The Opposition have given notice of motion censuring the Government for their administration of the Crimes Act.

At a meeting of the Unionist party summoned by the Marquis of Hartington, it was agreed to continue their support to the Ministry in order to keep Mr Gladstone's ascendancy back. A crisis has therefore been averted. In the House of Commons Mr Morley has tabled a motion—" That the present administration of Ireland undermines respect for the law, estranges the support of the Irish people, and injures the common interests of the kingdom." The motion will be debated on Monday.

The Liberal Unionists haw resolved to support the withdrawal of the licensing clauses in the Local Government Bill, provided that the Government will allow a debate on Mr Cochran Stephenson's Sunday Closing Bill. Mr Smith has agreed to the proposal.
