THE DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB,
At a meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s Committee last evening, a quantity of business was transacted, of which tho following were the principal matters ; It was resolved to engage a band for the ensuing race-meeting.
A letter was received from Mr W. A. Porteous, of Winton, asking for tho removal of the disqualification of his horse Ragman, that ran at Wyndham races in December, tho programme for which races had not been passed hy the Dunedin Jockey Club. —It was resolved that the disqualification of the horses that ran at Wyndham will not be removed until the Wyndham Club acknowledge their error and ask for the removal of the disqualification. Mr W. Hutchison, honorary secretary to the Riverton Racing Club, wrote stating that Mr A. Jones, of Wyndham, was a defaulter to the former club to the extent of L2 3s for entrance and qualification fees; also that Mr Jones had not taken the slightest notice of the Riverton Club’s application for the said amount.—Resolved that the Riverton Club be informed that the name of Mr A. Jones will be placed on the unpaid forfeit list, and that until the amount is paid to the metropolitan club Rule 77 is in force.
Mr Hutchison also wrote stating that the jockeys Walter Duncan and John Heggarty made false statements in connection with the protest against the horse Lewis, winner of the Maiden Plate at the Riverton races, and that Duncan was fined L 3 and Heggarty LI therefore, but that neither of the jockeys had paid the fine.—Resolved that the Riverton Club be informed that they have it in their power, in accordance with Rule 114, to suspend the two jockeys from riding. The Bald Hill Flat Race Committee wrote intimating that they had disqualified Mr Charles Mitchell, of Cromwell, and his horse Tommy, winner of the Maiden Plate at their races on March 17, on account of fraudulent entry, the. horse having previously won an advertised race, in contradistinction of the ti-r'n.s, e-f the proermirne,— Disqualification at!., etii.il irtiw i< i" tie- : -t t h--.i n.» U;i n;

The Committee also minuted the following :—“ That being morally convinced that certain parties, whose names are on the disqualification list, have been running horses in the names of other people, it is re solved that in all cases of corrupt practices in future, when the owner of any horse is disqualified, the said person shall be warned off the course and other places where the Dunedin Jockey Club’s rules are in force, and that consequently Rule 152 will be brought into action,” This rule, we may remark, enables the club to deal with disqualified persons who, as is known, have been evading their disqualification,
