FATALITIES.
William Sutcliffe was killed at Rcmucra yesterday by falling down a well on Mr J. Russell’s property. He was employed deepening the well, and at mid-day was being hauled to the surface to eat his lunch. When Sutcliffe was almost at the top of the well the rope suddenly snapped, and ho fell backwards to the bottom, a distance of some 59ft. His injuries were of a fearful'charactcr—one leg was smashed and several ribs broken ; a thigli was smashed, and there was another wound caused hy Sutcliffe falling on his pick or spade at the bottom of the well. He died in a few minutes.
The inquest on the man found dead at Lyttelton was resumed yesterday, and further adjourned for the production of letters from Timaru bearing on the case. DrFitzHenry, who had niadcay>o*2 mor/emexanimation, stated that he had come to the conclusion that death resulted from poison, but he could not say of what nature without an analysis. The body has been fully identified as that of L. Marten, a baker by trade, formerly employed hy Mr Douglas at Timaru.
