Unfortunate the Second.

♦ " Is this J jseph Smith ?" asked His Honor oi the second. "Hey !" shouted the man. " Are you Joseph Smith ?" "Hey!" " Mr Stebbins, shout in his ear and ask his name." Stebbins shouted, and the man drew away and replied: "Well, what of it? Is it a crime in Detroit to bo named Joseph Smith ?" " Tell him he was drunk last night." Stebbins shouted the information three different times, in three different tones of voice, and the prisoner growled in reply : " Well, you needn't tell everybody in the State of Michigan of it! Better men than me get drunk every day in the year, and nothing is said about it." " Ask where he lives." Stebbins shouted and shrieked and yelled, but the prisoner could not make it out, and His Honor finally said : " Take him to the door and fire him out ! The Jaw doesn't require us to burst a bloodvessel to get at the facts in the case, If you can manage to plant a hint upon his coattails that he had better move on to the next town it would be a good thing." Stebbins complied, and when he had returned to the court-room Joseph stood in the middle of the street and shook his fist and shouted : " I'll lay for you, you old bald-head ! I'vq got as good a right to be sent up as any of the rest of them !"
