Th area in Wales had an average excess per acre of 1$ tons ; Scotland, three-quarters of a ton; and Ireland, over a ton. The area under turnips was 2,272,410 acres, which yielded 22J million tons, an average of over 9| tons per acre; of mangolds, 402,423 acres yielded 5,878,328 tons, or 14J tons per acre ; of hay, 9,031,136 acres yielded 11,492,716 tons, an average of 14, tons per acre; 63,706 acres were sown with hops, which yielded nearly 7icwt per acre. Seventeen and a-lialf million quarters of foreign breadstuffs will still have to be imported before August next, only seven and a-half million of which had been received up to the end o' January. At the low prices ruling the wheat crop averages a return of L 6 an acre, and in some cases the straw will return as much more.
