SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The monthly meeting of the High street School Committee was held last evening, and was attended by Messrs Isaac (chairman), Lunn, Melvin, West, Caradus, Cameron, and Mercer. The head-master's report showed the number of pupils on the roll to be 700, the average attendance being 638 ; and added: " I regret that, owing to boisterous weather, last month's attendance should bring our average below 650 for the quarter. This is unfortunate, as it will prevent the school from getting an additional pupil-teacher for three months at least. The attendance of three more pupils would have given us the number required." The Secretary reported receipt of L2l 5s from the Education Board. A letter was received from a parent complaining that his daughter had been detained in school during the greater portion of the lunch hour, and requesting the Committee to jmt a stop to the practice of " keeping-in" during the hour mentioned. After considerable discussion, it was resolved—- " That the head-master be instructed to strictly carry out a previous resolution passed by the Committee, viz,, 'that no pupil bo detained in school between the hours of twelve and one o'clock.'" The passing of sundry accounts concluded the business.
