A MOST DESERVING CASE.

10 THE EDITOR. Sin,—h.now.'-g your willingness to give a helping hand where it is needed, as well as the great benevolence of Otogo citizens, I beg to call attention to the recent fire at Norsewood. The Norsewood people have been woik ing hard for many years, often with great hardships and privations, to brhg the settlement into a good condition, and it is sid indeed to see thus many years hard work destroyed in one day—a calamity felt the harder just at the beginning of the winter. I see from your telegram that subscriptions have at once been set on foot in other place?, and I hope that the people of Otago, although so many calls on their benevolence have recently been made, will not stand back iu this sad and deserving case.

Trusting that you, Mr Editor, will take up the matter, and also receive subscriptions-I am, etc, Carl Heckschek. Dunedin, March 20.

p,S.—As the Norsewood library has been destroyed and the want of this will be felt very much in the long winter evenings, may I suggest that those who have any books to spare will kindly send thera to me, and I shall in due time forward them to Norsewood.

[Wofchallbe only too pleased to receive sub scriptions or donations of books.—Ed. E.S.]
