LARRIKINISM.

TO THE EDITOR. S r,—Allow me space to say a word with regard to the stone-throwing and larrikinism in Atuol place, between Hanover street and St. Andrew street, where it is nearly impossible to live in safety. At night—even in broad daylight—largo stones are continually being thrown over the houses, so as to endanger people's lives going out into their backyard. I have lived there for two months, and have had the pleasure of seeing a policeman only once.— I am, etc., RESIDENT. Ilunedin, March 14.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Mijjht I, through the medium of your paper, draw the attention of the proper author rities to the disgraceful proceedings of larrikins and blackguards who frequent the neighborhood of Hanover street. Ic is not Bafe for our mothers or sisters to walk the street after dusk without being insulted and followed by some of these characters. No later than last Sabbath evening, about nine o'clock, an elderly lady and her daughter, proceeding home, were grossly insulteJ. What is our city coming to ? We read of such proceedings taking placj in Mel bourne and elsewhere, and I think our town must be infested by the same class of scoundrels I hope the police will take the hint and visit the locality named, or that some brother or friend will be on hand and administer a horsewhipping that will bo a lesson to them, for nothing but a low coward would insult an unprotected female. Ab two or three cases have come under my notice of late, I feel it my duty to warn ladies about the locality mentioned, so that they may bo on tbeir guard.— I am, etc., A Relation. Duncdin, March 15.
