In the House of Lords the Earl of Delawarr called attention to the depression in trade, and Lord Salisbury in reply said that, admitting the fallacies of Freetradc, Parliament was unable to adopt Protection.
In the House of Commons the Conversion of Stock Bill, which will give effect to Mr Goschen’s scheme, was read a first time.
The motion by Lord Charles Beresford—“That the allocation of authority in the Admiralty requires reform”— was negatived.
