VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
In the hope of inducing outside competition, the Southland Rifle Association have added to their Easter_ programme a team match, the first prize being ten guineas, the second six guineas, and the third three guineas; ranges, 200, 300, and 500 yards; five shots at each range; five men a-side ; entrance, 25s per team. The Dunedin Highland Rifles fired the fourteenth competition for rifle and cup presented by Mr James Murray, jun., at the Holyrood range on Saturday. The ranges were 500 and 600 yards; seven shots at each range; the scores to count for the trophy presented by Volunteer Harrison. The shooting was below the average, owing to the heavy rain and baffling winds which prevailed all the afternoon. The following were the highest scorers :
