DEATH OF EMPEROR WILLIAM.

A DRAMATIC SCENE

Berlin, March 10.

A dramatic scene was witnessed in the Reichstag when Prince Bismarck exhibited Emperor William's signature attached to the proclamation proroguing Parliament. The Chancellor's eulogium of the Emperor moved many of the deputies to tears. His Majesty on his deathbed counselled special consideration being shown to the Czar, but said that Austria -was Germany's best friend.

The body now lies in state at the castle chapel, and will be interred in the mausoleum of Frederick William and Queen Louisa at Charlottenburg, three miles from Berlin.

THE EMPEROR FREDERICK. The Emperor Frederick was greatly distressed at the news of his father's death, but has recovered from the shock, and started to-day on his return to this city. After his father's interment his Majesty will leave for Wiesbaden.

King Humbert met the Emperor Frederick William at Genoa, and the latter looked fairly well.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE FUNERAL.

Berlin, March 11

The body of the late Emperor after being embalmed will be removed to the cathedral in the vicinity of the Schloss, where the public will be admitted. Princo Albert Victor of Wales, Archduke Rudolph of Austria, the Czarewlch, and the King of the Belgians will attend the funeral. National mourning has been made discretional, and it is being universally observed.

The Emperor Frederick William arrived at Charlottenburg to-day, the latter part of the journey from San Remo being accomplished in very severe weather, and a terrible snowstorm being experienced at Charlottenburg upon tho arrival of the Emperor, who, however, suffered no ill effects from the journey. He was met at Charlottenburg by immense crowds of people, who displayed the greatest enthusiasm upon the Emperor's appearance, and cheered him loudly as he drove off to Babelsberg Palace. Prince Bismarck joined the Emperor at Leipsic and greeted him with marks of the warmest affection.

EXPRESSIONS OF CONDOLENCE.

Berlin, March 12.

Cable messages from German residents in all parts of the world continue to arrive expressing regret at the death of the late Emperor and sympathy with the bereaved family.

RUSSIAN SYMPATHY. St. Petersburg, March 12. Tho Russian Court and the whole army will go into mourning for a month as a mark of respect to the late Emperor Wilhelm of Germany.

THE NEW EMPEROR'S HEALTH.

London, March 12,

Her Majesty the Queen has received a cablegram assuring her that the Emperor Frederick William has suffered no ill effects from the journey from San Remo, and that his general health is good.

His Majesty expired peacefully and painlessly, and before his death he exhorted Prince William to adopt an amicable attitude towards ttye Czar, ajtd was strongly of opinion that there would be no war between Germany and Russia. THE NEW EMPEROR. The Emperor Frederick William, in a despatch from San Remo, thanks Ministers for their devotion to his father, and relies on their assistance in the future guidance of the nation. He requests that no order should be issued commanding public mourning, but that the matter should be left to each individual. He assumes the title of Frederick 111. of Prussia and Emperor of Germany.

SYMPATHY FROM CANTERBURY RESIDENTS.

The German residents of Canterbury have sent a cablegram to Germany expressing condolence, regret, and sympathy on the death of Emperor Wilhelm.
