The Invetoargill was loading at the Rattray street wharf to-day for Invercarglll. Tho Hawea loaded cargo at the Rattray street whaif this forenoon, and left lu the afternoon for Northern porta. The Beautiful Star arrived at the Rattray street wharf at 10.25 p.m. on Saturday. She left CUmaru at 8 p.m., and had strong S.E. winds, with thick rainy weather, along the coast. We thank Mr Brewer, the chief officer, for roport, etc On Saturday afternoon His Worship the Mayor, the chairman of tho Harbor Board, and Or CarroU (also a member of the Harbor Board) proceeded to Port Chalmers and went on board H.M S. Calliope, anchored at the powder ground, and welcomed Captain Kano on this his first visit to the port of Otago, The weather being very unfavorable for anything more than the ordinary courtesies, the visit was o indued to a very pleasant and agreeable conversation in the oabln. ARRIVAL OF THE BAYLEY. The steamer Bijl v, the S\tat vessel of the Colonial Union Company which has visited this port, arrived alongsided tho Bowen pier at 3 p.m. yesterday, and this morning commenood to discharge her cargo for this port, which eontUts of somo 80u tons. Tho Bayley is barque rigged, and outwardly presents a very graceful appearanc ', the clipper stem terminating with a carved figure-head. She is oonntriicted of steel, and was built under special survey by Ucaicjt Swan and Hunter, of Newcastleon-Tyno, and laui ched in November, 1830. Her engines were constructed under special survey by the Wa'lsend Slipway and Enginceiing Company, at Newcastle, and are on the'triple expansion principle, tho o>lihders being respectively 28in, 42in, and C9in In diameter, with a length of stroke of 48in. Steam 1b supplied by three double-ended steel boile a, oich of which has a working pressure of 150 pounds to the square inch. The engines are of 400 horse-power nominal, and are capable of driving tho vessel at a speed of thirteen knots on the moderate consumption of twenty eight tons of coal per d»y. She is fitted with patent windlasses, and each of the hatches is supp ied with a powerful steam winoh to facilitate the receipt and delivery of cargo. She is specially fitted for the ciniage of frozen meat, and the whole of the spaoe btlow (with tho exception of No. 1 'tween-deok) 1b insulated for that pu'poso, and there is space for somo 23 000 carcasseß of mutton. She has been fitted with Hall's patent refrigerating machinery of tho best description, and which his cost somo L 13.000. Her dimensions are as follow :—Length, 829 ft Sin ; breadth tf beam, 40ft; depth of hold, 26ft 4ln. She is built on the cellular principle, with a cap.-iolty for 450 tons of water ballast; and is divided into six watertight compartmentP. Her hull is of groat strength and very symmetrical. Sho has a bridge dick 80ft lorg amidships, with a full poop and top-gallant forecastle. The chart room and wheelhouse are on this deck, and in tho alley ways below it are tho officers' state rooms, etc. The compartment for tho seamen and firemen is. as usual, in the foreoistle. She has a very n"at Utile Faloon fitted up with Hung&ilaa oak and ash, and whioh is very comfortable. Tho Bayley Is now on her seoond voyage, tho first havlnsr been from England to China, and thenoe to New York ; after that she returned to London, and went Into her present service. She is commanded by Captain A. Child, who brings with him as offljers Messrs K<-ys, Balmanuo, and Oocdwln. Tho Bayley left Gravesend on Decomher 24, and rcachod Cape Town on January 18; she left on the 19th and proceeded to Sydney, where Bho arrived Februaiy 10; left that port on tho 21st, and prooeeded to Auckland, thence she oame down tho coast, Billing at Napier, Wellington, and Lyttolton, and reaching Port Chalmers as above.

ARRIVAL OF THE EUTERPE. The Shaw, St'ill and Albion Company's ship Eulorpe, In ballast, from Melbourne, reached the Heads yesterday morning, and was towed Into port by tho Pluoky, being berthed at tho export pier in readinoss to load for London. Since the Euterpe's last visit here her conmand has been changed, she being now In charge of Captain Tom Bowling, whose list visit, to this port was in command of the company's barque Akaroi. Captain Bowling brings the following offloers : Chief, Mr Flndlay ; seoond, Mr Rao ; third, Mr Roberts. She ktt Port Philip on February 24, and mot adverso winds in the straits which compelled her to run to the westward of King Is'.and on the 25th, when she had Uaht northorly winds, whioh veered to N. and N. W. "light and unsteady ; she passed the Snares on the 6th inst, at night, and since then has bsen hammering up the coast against gales and thick fogs; passed Stewart Island at 10 a.m. on the 10th inst, had variable winds with heavy ralr.s, and made Cape Saunders at 8 a.m. on the same day ; stood off to the S. and E. until daybreak yesterday, when she headed in for the land, and came into port as above,

She left Melbourne at 6.30 p.m. on the 6th Inst.: arrived at Ilobart at 020 a.m. on the 7ih; nailed again 4 85 p m., and arrived off Milford Sound at 5 n m on tho 11th. but was unabla to enter owing to thick weather. From Melbourne to Hobart had strong S.W. winds and squally ; thonoe strong southerly and heavy beam seas, and a northerly gale. Passengers: For Dunedin-Misses Ferem, M'Coll, Hannah (2).
