The Fire Brigades’ Association met this morning. The annual report stated that six brigades had joined during the year, making forty-three brigades on the roll, with a membership of over 1,000. The balanceshdet showed the receipts to have been L 494 3s 9d, and the expenses L 292 7s, leaving a credit balance of LlOl 18s 9d. A protest from the Spit Brigade against any alteration of the conditions for the hose and hydrant competition for five men was not allowed. The question of admitting fire police and salvage corps to the Association w'as deferred to next conference ; the executive meanwhile to draw up special rules applicable to them. Papers were received from Captain Page on the subject of providing proper accommodation and pecuniary assistance to brigades, and suggestions re working brigades. Captain Mitchell reported that he had been unable to obtain a remission of fares for delegates travelling by the Union Company’s steamers.
