WELLINGTON. February 17
The scope of the publication which Sir Julius Vogel is connected with, it is said, will embrace the whole of the Pacific Islands, including New Zealand and Australia, and will extend to the Panama Canal and its vicinity. M. De Lessepa has accepted dedication of the work. The capital of the company is L 50,000 in LlO shares. The provisional directors are the Hon. R. Pharasyu, M.L.C., and Mr George Beetham, M.H.R. It is not yet settled whether the Company will erect premises and plant of their own or contraot with some existing firm for its publication, It is expected that the cost of bringing out the work will be LIOO,OOO, and it is understood that it will be issued in forty-two numbers at 5s each. It has transpired that a registered letter mail bag by the lonic has been tampered with. The postal authorities are investigating the matter.
BALCLUTHA, February 17
At a meeting of the River Board to-day the tender of Captain M'Kinnou and others was accepted for a lease of the steamer Matau for one year to conduct the river traffic.
