INVERCARGILL v. CARISBROOK. This match, which proved a very enjoyable one, w a9 played at Caversham yesterday, and resulted in a draw. The poor stand made by both teams in their first innings was principally due to the dead state of the wicket, caused through the previous night’s rain. In the second innings Cariabrook made a splendid stand, the batting displayed by Drabble and Rattray reminding one of Cariabrook in its best, days. The former’s innings was playbd in a free and first-class style, without giving a chance. Rattray gave one or tiyo chances; nevertheless His cutting ' and driving ’were" v’ery clean. Double figures were ajao reached by Izard, Ttutdin (who hit very har4 for bis runs), and

Smith. The batting nf the visitors was weak, Burns, Raymond, and Watson being the only ones who showed anything like form. The Carisbrook were rather fortunate in dismissing the former before he had got hia eye fairly in. When once set he is a dangerous batsman. Their bowling, with the exception of Findlay (who trundled in first-class style), was hardly up to the average standard, but their fielding was splendid, and some of our clubs would do well to take a lesson from them. Forrester and Morris trundled in excellent style for Carisbrook. Subjoined are the scores:—
