The Bank rate of discount is at 4 per cent., and the market rate at 3 per cent. Adelaide wheat (ex store), per 4061b, 34s 6d; New Zealand l wheat (ex store), per 4961b, 32s to 33s Cd, according to grade. Adelaide Hour (ex store), per 2801b, 245. Australian tallow : Beef, average quality, 24s per cwt; mutton, 24a 6d. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,480,000 quarters, and for the Continent 2,190,000 quarters. (Special so Press Association.) The Marquis of Salisbury refused to agree to the course proposed, aud it is thought that the object of Lord Randolph Churchill’s visit to Russia is with tho view of embarrassing the Marquis of Salisbury. At a largely-attended banquet given by colonists, Mr Justin M'Carthy stated that the Earl of Carnarvon had accepted Mr Parnell’s scheme of Home Rule for Ireland, The Marquis of Salisbury said that the Earl of Carnarvon was at present absent in Australia, but until the statement was justified he would be convinced that it was w'ithoutfoundation. Mr M'Carthy replied that the Earl of Carnarvon was a man of honor, and would certainly not disclaim the statement. The commanders of positions along the entire Western frontier have been summoned to Gatschiua. Mr Cecil Raikes, Postmaster-General, insists that he is entitled to include parcels under the mail contract, and he refuses to give way. Tho companies declare that neither iu the original tender nor iu the parleying which took place was anything implied that parcelsshould be carried. They dispute tho legality of Mr llaikes’s proposal, and refuse to accept what they term a new and dangerous obligation. At the last momenta deadlock has taken place. LONDON, December 25, Rothschild and Sons deny that they arc connected with any syndicate established for maintaining tho price of copper. Moore, Bishop of Ballarat, has had a private audience with the Pope, when be presented the address from the Catholics resident iu Victoria. His Holiness, in reply, said he y'as pleased at the progress of religion in Ballarat. He commended their generosity in support of religion and education. It is rumored that the Earl of Dunraven is preparing a measure providing for the election of members of the House of Lords. A general strike has been ordered of the employes on the Philadelphia-Leading Railway Company, in consequence of the owners employing non-union men. The strike will affect 05,000 men.
