The Lord Mayor of London has opened a fund to provide L 20.000 to lay out pleasure grounds in London in order to give work and afford relief to tho unemployed. Mrs Gordon Daillee, of New South Wales, has obtained several grants of land in Australia for the purpose of establishing settlements for the Skye crofters, and she has applied to the Imperial Government for assistance in facilitating their migration. Sir Charles Gavin Duffy has written to the Marauis of Hartington pointing out that Mr Gladstone's Home Rule scheme provides safeguards for the supremacy of the Imperial Parliament. Lord Hartington, in his reply, says that tho safeguards are insufficient, and that the granting of Home Rule would gain separation. Owing to the distress prevailing among the working class large numbers of artisans are emigrating to Queensland as farm laborers.
