OAVKBBHAM.— The meeting of this Council last night was attended by the Mayor, Ora Nutting, M'Laren, Rutherford, Taverner, Frye, Kirby, M'Beath, M‘Kelvey, Baskett, and Coverlid. —The Finance Committee’s report, which was adopted, stated that Ll4l _9s bad. been paid into the Bank since last meeting, and recommended that L 92 12s lid for general accounts and LlO5 5s 6d for water supply be passed for payment. The Committee had referred the question of taking proceedings for the recovery of half the cost of repairing the culvert on the Forbury road to the Mayor, with power to act, and bad further postponed the letter from the South Dunedin Council.—The Drainage and' Water Committee repoitcd that they had suggested to the authorities of the Benevolent Institution that in order to provide the Institution with a plentiful supply of water in case of fire, they should lay a three-inch pipe direct from the Main South road to the Institution. They recommended the Council to employ *n engineer to prepare a plan of a drainage scheme for St Clair. The report was ( adopted, and the matter with reference to the dtainaßO oi at. Clair was referred to the Committee to take the necessary steps to prepare plans.—Mr Didham’s tender (Ll2) for the repair of High street was accepted.—Mr M. Pearce was appointed valuator for the coming year.—The dog tax was fixed at lOs.—On the motion of Or Couc, seconded by Cr M Kklvet, it was resolved—“ That a hearty vote of thanks he recorded on the minutes for the able manner in which His Worship the Mayor watched the case of the South Dunedin against the Caversham Council in the Supreme Court, The question of securing a vote for toe recreation reserve was referred to the worn Committee,—Ors Taverner, Cole, Coverlid, M'Kelvey, and M'Laren were appointed a committee to draw up by-laws to he submitted to the next meeting of the Council.
