THE ASSOCIATION GAME,

Teams of the D.A.P.C. and Caversham j (Rugby) Clubs met on the ground of the ! former at Tahuna Park on Saturday and engaged in a keenly contested game under Association rules. The visitors had the assistance of Messrs Drabble and Stronach (Pirates), while the home team was without some of its more regular players. The teams were : Cavbrsham.—Goal —Bremner; backs —A. Lang (captain), W. Lans ; half-backs—Gilles, Watt; for-wards-Drabblo, Stronach, Geddcs, Christie, and Briggs (2). Dbhrdw.—Goal—Pollook; backs—Grove, Stewart; half-backs—Harper, MoEcritff (captain); forwardsArmour, Neaves, Halliweli, Leslie, Gibson, and Pollock. Mr Fleming acted as umpire. Moncrieff (captain) won the toss for the Dunedin and elected to play with a good wind in his favor. During the first half the play was mainly in the visitors' territory, but they kept up a good defence, Bremner showing to good advantage in goal, while his backs ( 2 ) an d Geddes) warded off many dangerous attacks. H. Stronach, Drabble, and Christie, in the forward division, made deserving efforts to relieve the pressure, but the home backs were hard to pass, and Harper was rewarded a goal from a long accurate shot. "Corners" occurred frequently, and, although well directed, were got out of dancer, The Dunedin continued the pressure, mit only managed to register one more goal, smartly taken by Armour. During the second half the Caversham had the advantage of the wind, and now returned the pressure that the home team had previously enforced. The visitors showed a good knowledge of the game, and the forwards, by judicious passing, got through the home backs and assaulted their fortress. Pollock cleared this charge, but only to be returned with a more telling effect later on, when a centre forward sent a shot that baffled him. Enoouraged by this success, and the wind continuing favorable, the attack became keep, while the defenpe was even more determined. Drabble returned a kick-ou.t against the crossbar, the ball rebounding into_ play, and was soon cleared by a strong kick by Stewart. The Dunedin forwards now made some headway, and got, into Caversham where exciting play took place, but the attempt at goal failed. Play became more even npw, both goals being assailed in turn. The Caversham team scored from some loose play in front of goal. Now matters wepe even ; the home team by close passjrjg worked hard to obtain a winning score, while the visitors worked equally determinedly, and an interesting game followed. The Dunedin renewed the attack and were rewarded after a lot of very close workthus winning a very pleasant game by three goals to two. Drabble, Stronach, Lang (2), E, Briggs, and Bremner, exhibited a good knowledge of the game, and did good service for Caversham ; Harper, Pollock, Armour, Leslie, Moncrieff, and Stewart doing well for the Dunedin. i The Dunedin Association Football Club intend closing the season on Saturday first by playing an Association game at Tahuna Park against a team of prominent Rugby players, who have a knowledge of the rules of the game.
