CARISBROOK CRICKET CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Carisbrook Cricket Club was held at Wain's Hotel on Saturday night. Mr H. Rose was voted to the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. Mr J. P. Maitland, president, wrote that it was utterly impossible for him to attend the meeting. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. The report was read as follows: Your Committee have much pleasure in presentiug the following report on the past season:— Membership.—Your Committee greatly regret that in point of numbers the membership is not so strong as is desirable for the efficient working of the Club. With the view of encouraging young players to join the Club and participate in the advantages of its ground, etc., a special general meeting was held at which the age of a junior member was raised from seventeen to twenty years of age. It is a matter of regret, however, that few yourg players were found to take advantage of this concession, and it is earnestly hoped that the members, one and all, will use their best endeavors to secure the services of as many rising young cricketer* as possible. The Past Season.—The result of the matches played during the season was very satisfactory, viz., eleven matches played by the first eleven, eight being won, two lost, and one drawn; one of the beaten teams being a mixed eleven. Jn most of these matches your Eleven was heavily handicapped, and the result therefore shows that the cricket of the Club has not deteriorated, although a little more attention might have been paid to practice. The Second Eleven played eight matches, losing four, winning three, and drawing one. The attention of members is drawn to the averages for the season, from which it will be seen that Mr F. Harper heads the batting list with the excellent average of 22.8 for fifteen innings, and jMr A. Kitt has taken the bowling honors with an average of 4.6 for seventy-two wickets. The batting averages do not compare favorably with those of the previous season; but it must be remembered that most of the matches were played against odds. Finance.—The total receipts for the year amount to L 144 8s 4d, and the expenditure to L 173 7s; while the Club has assets to the value of L 159 3s, with liabilities L6414s Id. General.—The Committee desire to place onrecord the loss sustained by the Club in the removal from town of Messrs T. L. Austin (late captain of the Club) and W. G. Dixon, two of the oldest members of the Club. In both batting and bowling their services will be greatly missed. The annual sports in connection with the Club were held on April 3, and, as usual, proved a great success, their popularity yearly increasing; and the thanks of the Club are due to those ladies and gentlemen who so generously presented prizes. Your Committee also take advantage of this occasion to thank the Pirates Football Club for the benefit match given by them in aid of the Club, Arrangements have been concluded whereby the Engineers' Band, under the conductorship of Mr Henry Benjamin, will play on the ground on Saturday afternoons, which, it is hoped, will tend to popularise the game. In conclusion, your Committee would point out to young cricketers the advantages to be gained by joining the Club in the shape of excellent ground and club requisites, and would urge all members to pay diligent attention to practice in order to keep up the present standard of the Club and to increase the membership roli The balance-sheet was also read. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said there was an element for regret in the report as to the number of members, but he was very glad to learn from the Committee that the coming season would be better, as a number of new members were to be proposed that night. Mr Alves seconded the motion, which was carried without comment. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected:— Presidents, Mr J. P. Maitland and Mr Allan Holmes; captain, Mr A. B.
