MEETING OF CREDITORS.
8.8 WILMAM POasotf. An adjourned meeting o( ereditora in the estate of W. Pogson was held in too Official Assignee's office yesterday afternoon. The meeting; had been adjourned (or the purpose of allowing the bankrupt to nuke an Mr Calvert, on behalf of the bankrupt, said he was not in a position to make an offer at present. Mr Paul, in the absence of the Assignee (who was attending another meeting), stated that he understood that in consequence of these proceedings the bankrupt had lost his situation. The Bankrupt said it was not quite decided yet whether he was to lose his situation or not. Mr D. M. Stuart said that, though it might have suited the Press to publish the proceedings at the last meeting, their aotion had proved disastrous to the creditors. He thought that in most business transactions the Press should be excluded altogether; it was no business of theirs. .... The Assignee, who maHe his appearance later, said he had taken charge of the piino, on which Mr Marks claimed LlO under a bailment. His solicitor bod advised him that this oould not be sustained at law. There was no doubt, however, that Mr Marks bad a moral claim. He had refused to compromise the matter tor L 5. The bankrupt had, since the last meeting, received notice of dismissal from the railway authorities. After the last meeting he (Mr Ashoroft) had telephoned to the ' Times' and informed them of the resolution that had been passed, but they had not seen fit to act on it They had, of course, a petfeot right to publish the evidenoe if they liked. Mr Marks oontridloted the statement that he had received LI a.week |dr three years from the bankrupt. The Assignee said, as to the question of excluding the Press, it at any time creditors expressed such a desire before a meeting commenced ho would exercise his powers and make the meetings private; but once the Press were in possession of ths information they oould not be interfered with.
It w.s resolved to give the bankrupt only tho amount of furniture and clothing provided for by the Ao L , viz., L 25 worth.
The meeting was then adjourned sine die.
