The winning payments in eohnfectiOn with the A.R.C. winter mectihg were made last night, the sum of L 525 5s being paid away. The principal amounts were :—D, Maloney (Great Northern Steeplechase), L3Ol 3s; J, Kean, L 142 10s ; J. Kavanagh, L 49 12s 6d. The following are the acceptances for the Hawke’s Bay Steeplechase Handicap on Jubilee Day :—Denbigh, Orient, Owlmoko, Silvio, Victor, Erebus, Kangaroo, Romeo, Mangahon, Huntsman, Waitangl, Nelson, Bangle, and Sextant are entered for the Melbourne Cup, but have been omitted in telegraphing. The total number of entries is 125, not 12C as previously telegraphed. Captain Cotton’s admirers have decided to present him with a purse of sovereigns in recognition of his plucky walk against Scott. Mr A. G. Rhodes gave a clip, and LGO was subscribed in the room.
