POLITICAL VIGILANCE ASSOCIATION.

TO THE EDITOR, Sin, — The Dunedin electors seem to be lagging in political masters. Meetings have been held in all parts of the Colony regarding retrenchment, representation, and taxation. Why is there such apathy shown here ? Dunedin ought to lead, not follow, in all public matters. I emsider wc are not doing ourselves justice in remaining iu this passive mood. I therefore beg, sir, to suggest to tho electors that a political vigilance association bo formed, having for its objects—--Ist. To look out for suitable persons to represent us in the now Parliament. 2nd. To insist imperatively on retrenchment in all departments of the Government service, including the Governor’s, Ministers’, and members’ salaries. 3rd. To alter the incidence of taxation by property and income tax in lieu of tho present tariff duties, excepting tea, tobacco, and spirits. Hoping this suggestion may bear some fruit— I am, etc., GLASGOW. 1, unedin, June 8,
