THE PORT CHALMERS ELECTORATE.

TO THE EDITOB. Sir,— Seeing that a meeting is to be held at the Port to-morrow night for the purpose of considering the selection of a representative in place of the late Mr Macandrew, it is to be hoped that the meeting will not come to a hasty conclusion by pledging themselves to support any gentleman until they see who are likely to come forward. It will be impossible to find a man possessing all the ability, influence, and tact which the late member wielded so loyally and skilfully in behalf of the Port. But at all events we can take time in carefully selecting the best, and it is of the utmost importance that the electors should not be led away by injudicious and precipitate action.—l am, etc., An Elector, Dunedin, March 7.
