THE TIMARU RACES, The following are detailed accounts of yesterday’s races: — Ti-MAKU Cur, of 200 sovg, with a sweepstakes of 3 sovs each. Second horse 25 sovs, third horse 10 sovs.

One mile and three-quarters. Mr J. Stephenson’s b hj Captain Webster, by St. Alltans—Pussy, 5 yrs, Bst 21b . .. (Sharp) 1 Mr 0. lluthcrford’s eh hj Master Agnes, 6 yrs, 7st 71b.. „ .. -• - (White) 2 Mr P. Butler’s b g Titbit, 3 yrs, 7st 91b (Stratford) 8 Mr Cotton’s bo Hermitage, 3 yrs, Bst .. (Derritt) 0

Cotton’s colt was much fancied owing to the fact that Derritt had the mount, and next him in favor came the game chesnut Master Agnes, Titbit was the least fancied, as he looked too light to foot it with the others on such a heavy course. At the first attempt Master Agnes got away solus, but White soon turned him back. At last they got away grandly, the chestnut again doing the piloting. Past the stand the first time the order was: Master Agnes, Captain Webster, Titbit, Hermitage. They raced in this order round the bend to the back, when the Captain ran up to Master Agnes, and Hermitage closed on Titbit. They raced thus, pair and pair, till the home turn, when Titbit joined the leading pair. At the rails all but Captain Webster were getting punished; but all efforts were fruitless, as the horse named won splendidly by a little over a length ; a very good third and fourth. The race was a grand one from the fall of the flag to the judge’s post; but Captain Webster, despite his steadier of Bst 21b, had a course that suited him all to pieces, and consequently had it pretty well his own way. Dividends, L2 4s and L2 Ss. Wbltrr Handicap, of 30 sovs. Six furlongs. Mr Pilbrow’e br in Mias Lyle, 6 yrs, Bst 71b (Owner) 1 Mr Bradley’s b m Rose and Gold (late Busybody), Sat 81b .. .. •• •• (White) 2 Mr Pilbrow's b m Mermaid, aged, 9st 71b (M’Guinness) 3 Wee Roddic (9st 51b), Camerinc (Bst 31b), and Cicero (Bst) also ran. This race was a complete boil over, or rather fiasco— all the horses but the three placed being left the post at the fall of the flag. Miss Lyle came along at a tremendous pace, and, after the riders on Rose and Gold and Mermaid had slightly hesitated, they gave chase. It was too late, however, for Miss Lyle had by this time a big lead, and won very comfortably by several lengths. Dividends, L 3 19s and L 5 lls.

Flying Handicap, ol 40 aovs. Six furlongs. Mr Brad lev’s b m Athol Daisy, 6 yts, Tat 31b (White) 1 Mr Bovlo’s b I Vanity Fair, 3 yts, 6st 121b (Myers) 2 Mr Jefferson’s bhj Tim Whilllsr, aged (Cochrane) 8 Jack (Bst 41b) and Miss Lylo(6at) also ran. It was almost dark when this race started. So far as could be seen Miss Lyle had the worst of the start, and never regained the ground lost. At the rails Athol Daisy drew out, and won by a length.
