SPORTING NOTES.

—#, Just before we went to press this afternoon the secretary of the Cricket Association received a cablegram from Hobart advising that the Tasmanian team of cricketere leave Hobart to-morrow, and will play against Otago on February 1, 2, and 4. Our Chriatchurch correspondent wires:— "There Beema to be a good deal of uncertainty about the Tasmanian trip. The last heard of them here was that they would leave on the 24th; but they were in difficulties about three or four of their men getting leave, which might oblige them to wait for the next steamer. Our Association have postponed the interprovincial match to a date not fixed in consequence of the Islanders' visit, and if they don't come after all it will be disappointing. Mr George Watson informs me that he thinks it very likely that our Association will put off the visit to Easter, if they cannot get the men they want now." The intercolonial bowling match, which takes place on the Dunedin Club's green tomorrow, will, if the weather should prove favorable, be an interesting affair. The match appears to have originated from a challenge by the Victorian bowlers to the bowlers of New Zealand, and it was taken up by the Dunedin, Caledonian, and Roslyn Clubs on behalf of the players of the Middle Island. The Dunedin Club placed their green at the disposal of the visitors and of ! the local players. The New Zealand Clubs will be represented by the following : DOnedin.—Messrs Callender, A. M'Derrnid, J. L. Butterworth, und J. C. Morris. Caledonian.—Messrs E. Hogg, E. Genever, and J. S. Capstlck. Rosl> n.—Mr James Wylde. MllfcoD.—Mr R. R. Jones. Inveroarp;ill.—Messrs Kingfiwell and J. E. Hannah. Christchurch—Messrs 11. Thompson, M.H.R., and Williams. Canterbury.—Mr Toomey. Naseby.—Mr Dawson. Balclutha.—Thomas Patterson. The New Zealand players meet on the green at noon to-morrow for the purpose of making final arrangements. It should be borne in mind that the proceeds of the match will go to the Benevolent Institution. The lawn tennis ground has been set apart for lady visitors. Delegates from the various clubs will act as stewards. The Mayor has asked the citizens to witness the game, in order to give as much eclal as possible to the proceedings.
