ROSLYN MAYORAL ELECTION.

.. + [We to net hold ourselves responsible (or opinions expressed by our correspondents.]

TO THB EDITOR. Siu,—l notice by your columns this evening that Cr Begg has tabled a motion the purport of which is to call Cr Kemnitz to account for having laid to the charge of our Borough Council dishonesty in the administration of its affairs. As one who was present at all the public meetings in connection with the above election, I can only state that Cr Kemnitz dwelt very strongly upon the existence of a certain " clique," and the prejudicial influence of such an unjust Btate of affairs. This I suppose is the charge to which Cr Begg refers. I hold it to be a perfectly just one, as also did all those 140 electors who voted for Mr Fountain. I further believe that the election, and the firm stand taken by those who opposed the present Mayor, have been; and will yet be, productive of much good in spite of the attempts of Cr Begg to throw dirty water and trump up dummy charges.—l am, etc., Veeitas. Roslyn, December 19.

Until the recent conference Mr Service, although a resident in Melbourne for thirty years, had never been to Sydney. Several assisted immigrants, direct from Germany, have arrived in Tasmania. The hours for engine-drivers in New South Wales have been fixed at fifty-five per week.
