Mr Brown said it would be within the recollection of some councillors that for the first few months he had some disagreeable duties to perform. He had, however, come to the Council determined to do his duty, and altogether they had got on very well together. He referred to works undertaken by the Tramway Company during his terra of office, and said he hoped to see them extending their operations very soon to the full extent of their concession. The tramway was an exceedingly valuable acquisition to the municipality, and would tend to make it one of the most important in the vicinity of Dunedin. He thanked them very heartily for the handsome presentation they had made him.
