SCHOOLS’ BREAK-UP.
The undermentioned schools broke up for the Christmas holidays to-day, The school buildings, as usual, bore a festive appearance, and each was attended by a large number of parents, for whose satisfaction recitations, readings, and vocal selections were given:— GEORGE STREET. Ilcad-teachcr: Mr D. A, M'Nicoll. Matron : Miss Spratt. Assistants : Messrs G, H. Smith, A. M‘Lean, W. Fitzgerald, and Miss Fraser. The number of pupils on the roll is 789, and the average attendance during the last quarter was 670. Mr M. W. Green, M.H.R., distributed the prizes, the principal of which were taken by the following;—
Alexander Dippio (dux); Robert Gibbs (lower division, sixth class); Gcargo Heads and Mary Urquhart (fifth class); William Brown (first division, fourth class); Jane Mitchell (second division); Ellen Gresswcll (first division, third class); Jessie Penman (second division); Henry Harbor (second class); James B. Hislop (firstdivision, first class); Albertus Kckhoflt (second division); G. Esrby, G. Cunningham, 11. Mercer, and E. M'Cormlck (First Royal Reader); W. F. Arthur (writing). ALBANY STREET. Head-teacher, Mr J. Mahoney.; matron, Miss Nichols; assistants, Messrs G. W. Macdonald, Janus Hendry, Alexander Sutherland, Misses Fowler and Haig. !Number on roll, 770; average attendance last quarter, 666. Mr M. W, Green, M.H.R,, presented the awards. The principal prizetakers were:— Alexina Fleming (dux); James Richmond (sixth class); Walter Brundell (fifth class); J, D. Brown and Alice Martin (fourth class); Gertrude Warren, R J. Walls, and Rachel Pearce (third class); Annie M'Lean, Elizabeth Forsythe, and Andrew Millar (second class); M. Campbell, Elizabeth Powell, and Robert Dixon (first class); Frank Pepperell, Florence Lambeth, and Grace Twiname (first Royal Reader). Special prizetakers: Thomas Thomson (physiology), Annie Matthowson, Monica Hahony, Edith M'Millan, and Nelly Lumb (drawing). The prizes given to the younger children were nicely got-up Christmas cards bearing the name of the school, UNION STREET. Head teacher, Mr A. Stewart; matron, Miss C. White : asistants, Messrs D, White, G. Balsille, J, Fitzgerald, Misses M. Roberts
and Adams, Number on roll, 741; average attem&hbh last Quartet, 050, The Rev. Dr Stuart presented the prizes. The following were the prize-takers:—

Scarfe, and Kate Chase (fourth class); Robert Wilson and Minnie Patillo (third class, first division); John Donovan and Sarah Wilson (second division); Allred Graham and Flora Summered (third division); JohnM'Naught and Maggie Stewart (second class, flrpt. division); Frederick Hoffman and Rose Blair (second division); Charles Clark and Nellie Fyfe (first class). Special prizes: M, Pigg (writing); Robert Rodger (arithmetic) ; Eva Pogaon (reading and recitation).
