A number of persons were released from the quarantine station last night. They are, however, reticent, pending legal advice as to the treatment they have received. Enough has, however, transpired to show that there has been gross neglect and mismanagement at the station. It is stated that the shoes and clothes of those in quarantine were destroyed and were never replaced. The facts which have come to light have created a deep sensation and a strong feeling of indignation, INTERPROVINCIAL. Efforts are being made to induce the Tramway Company to run the tram-cars on Sundays. [From our own Correspondent.] QUEENSTOWN, August 26. Mr De Lautour’s proposed amendment of the Laud Act, if carried, will meet several cases of hardship here. Several selectors were compelled originally to take up limited areas who could not afterwards obtain contiguous sections, and some of them are still confined to fifty acres. The floating of the Moke Creek Copper Company has given increased confidence here. Several parties have been out for some time past prospecting the southern or lake side of the range, extending from Ben Lomond to Mount Creighton. Various indications have been obtained of auriferous copper lodes—also of electrum copper reefs. A sample of the new Grey copper lode will be sent to the Invercargill Exhibition, besides specimens of those named. After exhibition they will be forwarded to Professor Black for analysis. As soon as the snow permits, pegging-out will be begun, and two prospecting applications under clause 36 of the Mines Act will be immediately lodged. These efforts will probably result in favorable discoveries of other things besides copper. The weather has been intensely cold until last night. To-day it is quite warm. The snow is well fixed upon the mountain ranges, promising a full summer’s supply of water,

The proposed electoral division does not meot with favorable approval. Each centra would probably start a local candidate. From Cromwell to Lumsden identity of interest exists, but Kingston to iiumsOen is cut out. Outsid® places from Cromwel l to St. Bstban* with different views arc tacked on, and tins will end in the district being banded over to perfect strangers. Too many centres, cadi considering itself important, are also excluded. If the schedule passes untouched, the Legislative Council may be appealed to to reject the Bill.
