[United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, February 5. Rain aet in this morning, and will Interfere seriously with the harvest. Yesterday a number of commercial gentlemen assembled to bid adieu to Mr T. R. Fisher, agent of the Colonial Insuranca j Company, who loaves for Dunedin to assume j the position of general manager of the Standard Insurance Company. The ohalr- ' man (Mr W. Day), while congratulating Mr Fisher on bis promotion, expressed the great regret of all who had been associated with him at his removal from Christchurch. 1 At Goliaa Bay, Lyttelton, this morning, a stone weighing from 301b to 401b rolled down the hill-side, and struck a girl, aged twelve years, the daughter of Mr Edgar, on the bead, causing concussion of the brain. It is feared that the accident will terminate

fatally. J. Cook, a greengrocer, whilst driving along the wharf at Lyttelton, was jolted out of his cart, and fell heavily on hia head on tjho rails. He was severely injured, j INVERCARGILL, February 6. At coon to-day a two-storey building in S Tay street, jointly occupied by M. Thomas, a general dealer, and Cooper, a jeweller, was burned down. Tno fire is bolieved to have been caused through a utensil with ohemicala upsetting iu the fireplaoe. Several other buildings were in danger, but were eaved through the exertioss of the Brigade. The building belonged to Lookhart Bros., and was insured for LSO in the New Zealand Office.
