PORT CHALMERS TOWN

COUNCIL,

The rcgu’ar meeting of the above Council was held yesterday evening. Present, the Mayor (Mr W. Murray), Crs Perry, Purdie, MVKenr.ie.MMfarlanejMackley.andMorkane. Letters were I'ead from the Colonial Secretary, forwarding copy of tho municipal byelaws. From Mr J. Tullock, applying to lease a piece of ground in Maoauclrew terrace, —Referred to Reserves Committee. F.om Mr .1, Smith, asking for some modification of the terms of his lease of large quarry, in reference to keeping the road in repair.—lt was decided that the terms of the agreement he strictly adhered to, and permission be granted to roll stones over the hill to the lower road.

The Mayor informed the Council that hj& had succeeded in getting prison labor for the road round the Peninsula, He was much pleased that the work was commenced last Monday at Observation Point, and hoped that by next year there would be a good road to the site of the baths, when no doubt the Council would see their way to erecting the same, which would be a great boon to the inhabitants.

The Finance Committee’s report recommended sundry accounts amounting to LO7 ID Md ire passed for payment. The Water Committee recommended that in future the supply of water to steam boilers within the town lie Is per 1,000 gallons. On the motion of Cr M‘K I’lN/ir: seconded by Cr M ‘ Far lank the price was raised to Is 0,1 per 1,000 gallons.
