Drunkenness.—Henry Pritchard, John M'Millan, and Charles Silver, for the above ofence, were each ordered to pay a fine of 10j, in default, forty-eight hours. Assault.—George Brown, boatswain of the ship Auckland, was charged with assaulting Alexander M'Cbnnell, seaman to the same vessel, on the 15th inst. From the evidence of the complainant it appeared he was at work whec the defendant called him to another job. Witness remonstrated with him, when the defendant took an iron belaying-pin and struck Mm five times about the head and arms, inflicting a severe wound over the right temple.—Corroborative evidence was given by Thomas Baird and Henry Bowles.—The defendant, in reply to the charge, stated that the complainant was an idle fellow and shirked his work.—The Bench considered a most brutal assault had been committed, and ordered the defendant to pay a fine of L 3 and in default one month's imprisonment.
