The revenue obtained from mineral leases in New South Wafys during the ten months ending October 30, 1872, was 1/129,000. Gold mining operations have been noteworthy for the enormous dividends paid by two quartz companies at Tam ha - room. The last dividends added together amounted to L 86.000. In Byers and Holterman’s claim, the last dividend was 15s in the pound, the proceeds of 11 wesks’ work. Krohmau’s dividend, the third since the comp-my was started, completed within seven months, the return of the original capital to th« shareholders, with a bonus of Gd the Ll share besides. The value of the land is over LI,GOO a foot. The richness of these two companies hides from view the poorness of a large number of others in which capital has beeu uselessly sunk. The Melbourne Herald says there is to be an attempt to close the bars at the bathing places, on the ground that their existence conduces to tippling among the young ladies.
