Tne Arrow sports, in aid of the Hospital, were a great success; and, as the result, LISO have been handed over to the Institution, Tveeby’s Hotel, at Shotover Bridge, was totally destroyed by lire on Sunday. Auckland. December 31. Clement, Calder, and Sutton’s experiments in smelting iron were a great success. The furnace was charged with Bcwt of sand, which yielded scwt of excellent steel, which has since been hammered down, and is working well. The metal ran free from the furnace without slag. Further experiments are to Ire tried. Louis Marel, who was lined LIOO last October for smuggling cigars from the Nevada, has had the tiuo remitted to L 25, which was paid, and the man has been released.
