GALES STILL RAGING
DAMAGE'IN SPAIN AND BRITAIN
Eec. 1.45 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 21. Storms which swept Portugal in the last few days killed five persons and injured or-made homeless several hundreds, reports the Lisbon correspondent of the Associated Press of Great ■. Britain. Violent cyclones are still gripping the country. The .lower districts of Lisbon are under water. An earth tremor was reported from several tjoints. The epicentre is believed to be about 175 miles off the C°The gale which has swept the United Kingdom during the last few days continues unabated, and is holding up Channel shipping, washing up many mines, and flooding roads and railways. Look-outs spotted four mines simultaneously drifting past Folkestone Harbour, and many others were, washed up on the beach between Dungeness and Hastings. Rain washed away _ballast from a railway in the west of England, compelling the diversion ot Some trains.
