JUVENILE CLASH
QUESTION OF SUPERIORITY
(Special to "The Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day. Probably the greatest sporting interest at Ellerslie will be taken in the two-year-old contest, the Great Northern Foal Stakes, which will bring about the first clash between those two fine colts, Beau Ie Havre and Barwon, who will be ridden by G. Hughes and J. Bagby respectively. In addition, Majesty and Regal Praise will lend colour to the contest. Incidentally, this is the first juvenile race in the north to be run over six furlongs.
There are some astute northern judges who declare that the last win scored by Regal Praise entitled her to rank as the best of her age. With that exalted opinion the writer does not agree, for without a doubt the recent win of Beau le Havre, left many lengths at the start, was truly outstanding. Of Regal Praise it can be also said that her initial success was. a great effort, for she was almost last into the straight. Barwon is a grand type of colt, with size and driving power almost unique. He is sensible too, and one not likely to run himself out before the race starts. He has won his last two races without being allowed to show just how good he is, and this confirms the fact that he is easy to ride. Majesty has had only one run, when he came from well back to beat all but Barwon at Ellerslie recently.
It is probable that these four youngsters will prove outstanding. Beau le Havre, however, is expected, to prove Slightly superior to Barwon. Again, Beau le Havre will have the assistance of G. Hughes, and this may actually prove the deciding factor.
