39,165 PARCELS PACKED
SEAMEN'S GIFT COMMITTEE Parcels -packed' by the. Overseas Seamen's Gift Committee amounted to 39,165, said Captain Williams at the final meeting of the committee on Thursday. Altogether 419 ships had been supplied, and many letters had testified to the appreciation of the recipients. There was a, fairly sizeable packing of 511 parcels on Thursday, when, also, members presented the convener, Mrs. M.H. Chatfield, with a handsome leather handbag, a pair of full-fashion-ed stockings, and a. bouquet. Mrs. Rollett, who has also been a consistent'helper, was also given a bouquet. Captains Macindoe and Williams, who have been closely associated with the work, spoke of the good influence it has had in many, directions. Mr. McCallum, another leading helper, proposed a vote of thanks to the British Sailors' : Society for the use of the lounge * for.. packing and a room for storing goods. Mr. C. D. Morpeth, president 8.5.5., was asked to convey the message to* his committee.
