TRADE POLICY AUSTRALIA AND N.Z.
The United States proppsals on commercial policy announced recently were discussed by the Minister of Supply and Munitions (Mr. Sullivan) with the Australian Prime Minister (Mr. Chifley) on his visit to Australia. A common understanding was arrived at between Australia and New Zealand on their respective attitudes towards those proposals, said Mr. Sullivan on his return, to Wellington yesterday afternoon.
The Minister said the whole subject was of very great importance to the people of the Dominion and the Commonwealth. In the discussions he had with Mr. Chifley and with officials a great deal of time and attention was given to the question, which involved preferences accorded by the United Kingdom to the Dominions and preferences extended at the present time by the Dominions to the United Kingdom.
