MEDICAL SCHOOL
SECOND-YEAR STUDENTS P.A. DUNEDIN, December 21. The Otago University Council has decided to admit 120 students to sec-ond-year classes at the medical school from the 347 applications which fell into nine groups. Groups and the number of applications in each are as follows, the number accepted in. each group being given in parentheses:— Students who have passed the intermediate examination and' claim that their courses have been seriously interfered with by war service overseas, and. who would not otherwise have qualified for admission in competition with other students, 16 (16 subject to verification of Army service); students who have not passed the intermediate examination, but who claim preference for war service overseas, and who may yet complete the intermediate examination by passing at the special examinations in February, 1946, 11 (11 places reserved); students who have previously attended second-year classes but who have not passed the annual! terms examination, 23 (18); students who have completed subjects of the intermediate examination and who are also holders of university degrees, 25 (24); students who have completed the intermediate examination and who hope to complete a university degree this year, 4 (4); one student who qualified for admission in 1945 but was not admitted through late notification of his having completed the medical preliminary examination, I 1 (1); students who have failed the intermediate examination but. by virtue of war service may have their marks at a special examination recognised on a competitive basis, 8 (5); students who have passed the intermediate examination and are not entitled to special preference, 169 (41); students who have jCailed to complete the intermediate examination, 90 (nil).
