TAKANINI GALLOPS

BALMACARA DOUBTFUL

(Special to "The Post") TAKANINI, This Day. The decisive defeat of Sweet Biscuit by Cambria, Balmacara's inability to defeat Peter Gregor, and the comfortable defeat of My Bonnie by Kings Pride were the highlights of the semifinal gallops at Takanini this morning, when training was on the inside grass track, which was very fast. Cambria and Sweet Biscuit set off on terms over five furlongs, and although the latter had the initiative in the early stages she was unable to withstand Cambria's strong finishing run, which took him to a two lengths advantage mKinfi's' Pride with an advantage in the weights, defeated My Bonnie by three lengths in 1.1 1-5. This was easily his best effort this season, which brings him into favour for the Railway Handicap. ■On the other hand, My Bonnie has not been beginning well in her gallops of late and this will be against her in the Railway Handicap. Peter Gregor and Balmacara were also associated over five furlongs the former, to all appearances, holding "toe upper hand throughout to finish hall a length in front in 1.0 2-5.. Balmacara's effort was a little disappointing and he has certainly known to work better. STm?. bfa£ iS^ekSn^unS in^laW HByS" and General March revealed improvement to complete their task in. 12 2-5, while, the juvenile Beau le 4-ssec. Jean Harlow weakened in the run home and was beaten by tniee leKnfght Templar and Revolte also showed dash to record 1.2 3 : 5. Sahib required 1.7, and Hot Pursuit.l.7 2-5. Sweet Girl was sent five furlongs, but after going very fast over the first couple of furlongs she ran right out to the outside fence. Nevertheless, she clocked 52 3-ssec for the last halfmile. She has been suffering from a sore mouth, and this probably caused the lapse. APPARENTLY RECOVERED. Super Vaals, who had been off the scene for a few days owing to a rick, was accompanied in a half-mile sprint by Yusuf, and in conceding him a good deal of weight was responsible for a nice effort when he defeated the other by a clear length in 48 4-ssec. He pulled up well, and it seems that he will be able to fulfil his engagements at the meeting. Brqwn Velvet and Jenny Wren recorded their best effort to date an registering 49sec for five furlongs, the pair being evenly matched. Night Messenger, who had the outside Tunning, was more impressive than Coruscant and Dunbarton in 49 3-ssec. Majesty was not seen working, but was on the track. It is thought that the Foxbridge colt will contest the Nursery Handicap in preference to the Foal Stakes. The Cup candidate *Landveyor, with the assistance of Gay Lally, was sent a mile and a quarter, travelling his last mile in 1.45. He seems to have come through his recent racing really well. Sir Bian completed his last mile in 1.44, again working keenly. The best mile gallop was done by Beau Dink, who is not engaged on the first day. Accompanied by Beau Sin over the last six furlongs, he registered 1.42, and crossed the line three lengths an front. . . Coronaire was again too good lor Royal Merit, finishing a length in front at the end of six furlongs in 1.14 3-5, while the hacks Park Royal and Jovial Song, in clocking similar time, were responsible for a better effort, as they were not bustled at the end after running the first three furlongs in 36sec. Bronya was allowed to ease down to register 1.7. Steppeland took 1.7 3-5. Balgowan and Corineus were sent seven furlongs, which they put behind them in 1.29 after traversing the first half-mile in 48 3-ssee; On this occasion Balgowan had matters much his own way to finish three lengths in front. &
