Many citizens received free drinks and free tram rides in Budapest when they proferred high banknotes which none would change becausi they feared that denominations over a pengo would be devalued, possibly today, says the Associated .Press correspondent. The Supreme Economic Council torbade the banks to accept money during a three-day period. This caused the public to start a run on the shops, many of which were closed in selfprotection. Foreign currency black rates, according to diplomatic circles, rose 100 per cent, in 24 hours.
