SWIMMING PROGRESS
WELLINGTON CLUB EVENTS
Performances in this week's events conducted at Thorndon Baths by the Wellington Swimming Club indicated that aspirants for representative honours were reaching top form. A particularly good effort was that of Miss T Ready in the open breaststroke and backstroke event, with Misses M. Teague and P. Aldridge showing up almost equally well. Other events having close finishes included the 166 2-3 yards relay, contested by five teams, two of which could not be separated by the judges for first place. During the evening learners and improvers received tuition from senior members, and, under the well-organised plan mapped out by the secretary (Mr. L. Murphy), the junior and intermediate swimmers stand to benefit considerably from the evening meetings. Results of this week's events were:— 50 yards junior boys: P. Burtt 1, J. Makinson 2, F. Woodford 3. 66 2-3 yards intermediate girls: Y. Hughes 1, N. McKenzie 2, D. Simmons 3. 100 yards open breaststroke and backstroke: Miss T. Ready 1, Miss M. Teague 2, Miss P. Aldridge 3. 166 2-3 yards relay: R. Hatchwell's and G. Batt's teams, deadheat, 1; O. Vaughan's team 3.
