COMBINATION YARN

A new, plastic Ayarn,. plexon, which promises, to revolutionise" post-war textiles, make va .sheer hosiery-.better; wear,ing>than: any.yeXmade-and :fill. a hundred and one other demands, has been developed. Sheer dfess'-materials that are resistant to perspiration and mild acids, car seat'- covers immune to grease, oil, and alcohol, drapes and furniture upholstery that are fire-retard-ent and self-extinguishing are all possible with the new yarn. An American chemical institute reporting on the new yarn, says it can be made to possess "almost unlimited strength, brightness or dullness and colour." ' .-

The new yarn is a combination of existing fibres, such as cotton, silk, rayon, silk or fibreglass with plastic solutions, making possible an almost infinite variety of physical properties. Seventeen different plastic formulae can be used, depending upon the final requirements of the finished yarn. It can be made either fine or heavy, stiff or soft, smooth or rough; transparent, translucent or opaque, and with bright or mat finish. The threads can be made round, oval, triangular or sqUare. The. present colour range consists of 120 shades, and these can be increased at will. .
