TIMBER MILL FIRE
P.A. GORE, This Day. Equipment valued at up to £1000 was involved in a fire which swept through the sawmill of Carroll and Co., Dundas Street East, this morning. The fire, which was discovered at about 5.45 o'clock by an employee, had a strong hold on the rough board exterior of the building and was blazing up the support posts to the roof beams. The brigade was soon on the scene, but failed to save the building. Much valuable machinery was also lost. The mill had been engaged for two years cutting limber for the box factory of McLeod Bros., Dunedin. A stack of finished timber near the mill was not harmed. The equipment was insured for £1000.
